We focus on what science is, how science works, and how scientists do their brand of science. We deliberately avoid the topics you would avoid talking about at dinner parties such as politics, religion, and economics. Science in its purest form is not political and not religious. Is it philosophical? Yes, it can be, which is why, in the past, science was sometimes referred to as "Natural Philosophy."
Your host, Professor Ata Sarajedini, a.k.a. "The Science DJ" is a Yale-educated PhD astronomer and astrophysicist with his own active scientific research program and a noted authority on stellar and galactic astronomy. He has been teaching college-level astronomy courses in the state university system in Florida for over 20 years.
The format and name of the show was jointly devised by the host collaborating with a good friend Ms Julie Klein. The purpose of the show is to equip you, our listeners, with the tools and techniques you need to critically analyze scientific findings presented to you every day. We want you to know how to ask the right questions to fully understand and critique the science. To that end, the aim of this radio show is to talk about science as practiced by real scientists and the impact of their scientific findings on society, culture, and philosophical thought.
Host of the show Professor Ata Sarajedini, "The Science DJ," talks about what is science and what is not science and an interview with Dr. Tiffany Roberts-Briggs about her research on the impact of environment on our beaches and shores.
Here, we list links to the recordings of the radio shows, graphics that help illustrate concepts we talked about, and the titles and artists of songs played during each show, for your listening pleasure.
